The Christchurch Art Gallery is the most modern major art
facility in the South Island and New Zealand. Its
contribution to the cultural landscape in Christchurch is
significant and its leadership in attracting major exhibitions has
stimulated interest in the visual arts amongst the Canterbury and
wider New Zealand public.
Our relationship with the Gallery started when the
Christchurch City Council sought to develop a new art gallery for
the city in 1998. We became involved at the outset in developing a
brief to meet the Council's requirements and working with the
Council and the Gallery team to develop the design
approach resulting in an innovative competition amongst competing
architects to design the Gallery facility. From that
point we led the consenting, tendering and construction management
through to completion and commissioning.
Since its completion in 2003, Christchurch Art Gallery has
hosted a number of international exhibitions and is now considered
a truly world class facility. In addition to its core
function, the Galleries role as the Civil Defense Headquarters
during the immediate aftermaths of the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch
earthquakes is well known.
