In Martin's Own Words

Key Projects

Lincoln University - AgResearch Joint Facility
As Project Manager on this large-scale, multifaceted facility, Martin's role is to provide support to the Project Directors, drive the resource and building consent processes, organise the enabling works, and mitigate the impact of construction on a live university campus. Recognising that the work undertaken represents a massive upheaval for users and stakeholders, Martin has helped to manage the change process by gaining a deep understanding of the University's drivers and ensuring information is clearly conveyed and decisions are followed through.

Kiwi Property Group - Northlands Mall Redevelopment
Martin provided support to the Senior Project Manager for the refurbishment and structural strengthening of Northlands Mall. As with any work on an existing building, the process involves making quick decisions within an ever-changing construction environment as the idiosyncrasies of the original structure reveal themselves. Managing the construction process sees Martin working directly with contractors, proactively drawing out solutions to overcome the various issues that arise.

Halswell Residential College
A public-sector project, the Halswell Residential Collegeis a dormitory for underprivileged and troubled youth. As Assistant Project Manager, Martin was responsible for delivering the design under budget, whilst managing the school's expectations. A highly serviced building, the design included listening devices, damage proof finishes and separated spaces - a level of detail that required careful thought process for every decision, accompanied by constant communication and impeccable record keeping.

Weatherby Gardens School, London
Martin was Project and Site Manager for the refurbishment of this Victorian building, originally built in the 1500s. The process involved a significant amount of discovery and required on-site decision-making to ensure that the building would be ready in time for the school year. Being located in the middle of London added additional complexities, from a lack of parking and storage to managing contractors who didn't speak English. Despite the many challenges, Martin found the process extremely rewarding and the project was delivered on time and on budget.

Statistics New Zealand Fit Out
This project was a three story interior fit out for a space shared by a number of government agencies. Constructed within a live environment, the project involved a large degree of liaison and communication; drawing on every team member to ensure that everything was managed efficiently. This fast-tracked project saw Martin's project management skills leap ahead, and with the project delivered on budget, on time and to a high standard, the client was extremely satisfied with the result.
